        flailinfool,

Yes, that's it. I stumbled onto the fact that an independent filmaker produced a documentary about the festival and am wondering if anyone has seen it. I was there, but have lost touch with all fellow-attendees. Here's an article about the film.

I was there. I had just turned seventeen. Drove up from a small town in the southeastern part of the state. The guy I went with (in his car) was bummed by the mud and the general chaos - and because I hooked up with a cute little coed and he didn't. He split and I stayed on. When the sweetie figured out how young I was, she wandered back to the folks she'd come with (a fun group from Ball State). Later, she decided not to be closed-minded about the age thing and invited me to join her and her friends in the area they'd staked out. I had a blast. I enjoyed the music and the people, and the trip home (hitchhiking) was an adventure too. I would also love to see the documentary and get my hands on the recording I've read about here.

I just saw the movie this morning in Champaign. The site for the movie is www.kickapoocreekmovie.com/. The producer was there. He plans to make the movie available as soon as it has screened at a film festival. Time frame uncertain. A small group of us who attended are planning to stay in contact. It would be good to hear from those on this site who attended the festival. We especially would like to find the guy with the big movie camera that was filming the stage. And I personally would like to locate someone who has a copy of the bootleg recordings. - Al

        Al,

Thanks for the message! I'd given up on this thread. Don't think I've even checked it in over a year. Seems like a few others are interested, too... great! How was the movie? Disappointing? Any footage of the actual concert? I have a few still photos (color). I'll try to find and scan them. Will share with anyone interested.

Jess - Great to connect with a Kickapoo graduate. The movie was good, but not what I expected. The form it has taken is largely due the the material that the producer, R.C. Raycraft, has had available, especially video. There was some context about the news and politics of the time, but a lot of it was about the impact on the people of the area and the controversy about the man on whose farm the event took place, specifically whether he absconded with the proceeds. Much of the video of the event was taken by law enforcement officials trying to get evidence to bust the farmer and others involved. There's a lot of footage of nude people in the creek, but not much of the action on the stage. There was, however several shots of someone with a big honking movie camera pointed toward the stage. It would be great to find that person. For those interested, the movie is a great addition to the effort to chronicle the event. And, who knows, it's been through a number of versions, maybe there could be another if more material emerges. It would help if R.C had the chance to interview participants and get more good pictures and film. I'm hoping that a larger community of Kickapoo graduates will emerge and contribute to the cause. There were four or five of those at the movie who exchanged email addresses with R.C so that we can communicate. Robert Campbell from Rockford has already accumulated a large amount of documentation. He's the one who turned me on to this forum. And R.C has more information that did not make it into the movie, including band lineups. My small contribution is available at atimke.home.insightbb.com/Kicka...x.html - Al

I was there, hitched down from La salle Peru on Route 51.
I had to leave late on a Sunday to hitch home so I could be at work Monday and as I was leaving I saw a camera crew coming in with a guy from Ottawa (Illinois) that I knew. He has worked as a draftsman at Sundstrand Corp in LaSalle. He was with a film crew covering the music festival for a local TV station.
I never saw him again and dont know where he is now but, as I remember, his name was Dave Marsh.
(not the same Dave Marsh, famous music critic)
I would love to buy a DVD of this movie or a CD of the bootleg music recorded.
I still have the Chicago Tribune front page article with the headline "The Mass Drug Culture Arrives"..................

            Peace & Love

I have just created the Kickapoo Creek Discussion group and you are invited to join. Please invite anyone who is interested. All they have to do is send a blank email to kickapoocreek-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. As soon as I approve the request, they're in. They can also go to the group site and read messages, post photos and files, and other things.

One thing to be aware of is that if you reply to a message, the reply goes to the whole group. If you want the reply to go to the sender, copy and paste the address into your email program.

    Welcome aboard,
    Al Timke

al, I joined your group earlier.

A friend from our college days at ISU and I got together this past weekend and the subject of Kickapoo Creek came up. Unbeknowst to the other we were both Andy Frain ushers and took tickets at the interest to the festival. That was quite an experience - to say the least.

I recall reading or hearing that a state legislator named Webber Borchers from my home town of Decatur went to the fetival in disguise with a cameraman and filmed the event and later showed it around Springfield.

Have you or anyone elseheard of this before? I would love to find that footage. Also, does anyone know if the Incident at Kickapoo Creed movie might be available on DVD?

Yes, I was there. Had a great time! A bunch of us rode from Tinley Park, IL on our motorcycles. I later heard that some town newspaper had a picture of a girl sleeping on a motorcycle on the front page. I was told it was me but I was never able to get a copy. I haven't seen the movie but would love to. Boy, this sure brings back memories!

Yes, I was there. I was also there the previous weekend to help build the stage. I was a student at ISU. I had seen a friend from my hometown (also a student) on campus. He said he was one of the promoters of the concert and asked if I was interested in free tickets in exchange for helping construct the stage. Classes were finished for the semester on that weekend prior to the concert and I was in my hometown and enlisted additional help from another friend. He and I drove to the Lewis Farm on Saturday and were put to work. During the lunch break, one of the other workers asked if I was in a band that would be playing during the concert as he handed me a joint to share. I replied that I wasn't in a band and that I was helping a friend by working for a free ticket. I asked him if he were in a band. To which he replied, "Yes, REO Speedwagon". I don't know which bandmember it was. REO was only a local group at that time, but I had heard of them and had attended several of their performances.
On the weekend of the concert, the other friend and I hitchhiked to Heyworth (couldn't get the family car for the weekend - probably a good thing because I'd probably still be grounded). I remember sleeping under a bus for protection from the rain. Someone in the bus started it up around 3:00 a.m. for heat. Everyone under the bus scrambled thinking that the bus was going to move. The night was cold, wet, and muddy. In the morning, I went to the creek to wash off the mud, what an enlightenment!
I left sometime late Saturday afternoon. I caught a ride from an off duty state policeman who lived near my hometown. He and his family were returning from a weekend trip to Southern Illinois which was cut short. He had been called to duty because of the concert and was taking his wife and daughter home and to pick up his uniform and squad car. He quizzed me about the activities at the concert. I remember me telling him it was, "Peace, Love, and Rock-n-Roll in one of its finest hours".
